Brisbane group, Vinted Vineer have released their new album, Lament. To celebrate, the band are taking us behind-the-scenes of their time spent in the studio working on the record with an exclusive photo diary.
“The title felt right straight away. It’s simple, but it captures a pretty complex emotional space. There’s a sense of it being a complaint, or just an outlet, which ties everything together. Compared to our earlier work, the album feels more direct and controlled. Less washed out, more intentional." the band share.
There’s no big overarching message, it’s just an honest set of songs with their own character, written in a time that was sometimes a bit heavy, but also really enjoyable creatively. By the end of the record, I just want people to feel like they understand where I’m coming from, and maybe take a small piece of it with them.”
This Friday, Vinted Vineer will kick off their Australian tour at Brisbane's The Brightside. The run of shows will continue on to Melbourne's Nighthawks on May 15 and Buddy's in Sydney on May 22nd, before wraping up at The Lass O'Gowrie in Newcastle on May 23. Tickets are on sale now.

Out the front of Underground Audio after wrapping all the tracking. A rare moment where everyone’s still standing and not buried in takes. Chris Brownbill right there with us too, who captured the bones of the whole record.

Vocal day, and of course Dom gets sick. You can see it all tucked off to the side, water, tissues, whatever we could find to get through it. Not ideal, but somehow it made its way into the takes.

Mid-session back and forth on a drum part. A lot of the record came together like this, just talking it out in the room and adjusting things on the spot. Nothing too precious, just chasing what felt right.

Deep in it trying to lock in an acoustic part. Probably overthinking it at this point, faces say it all. End of a long stretch where your brain’s a bit fried but you keep pushing anyway.

Dialling in tones one pedal at a time. A lot of small decisions like this stacked up into the sound of the record. Easy to overlook, but it’s where things really start to take shape.

Getting everything set before a take. These quieter moments end up being just as important as the big ones. Making sure the feel’s right before anything gets recorded.

Pretty honest snapshot of how most sessions go. Ruben locked in at the desk while Dom steals five minutes on the couch. Long days, but worth it.
