Tonsil Hockey and Zodiac are out now

Lola Scott believes that creativity stems from boredom – a place we rarely reach in a society built on hustle culture and productivity guilt. Today, she releases two new singles, Tonsil Hockey and Zodiac’, both born from giving herself the space to slow down and create. To celebrate the double release, Lola gives MILKY an exclusive glimpse into how both tracks were made.

Tonsil Hockey was written and recorded in a cottage outside Paxton with Lola’s best friends and longtime collaborators Hannah Brewer, Oscar Sharah and Pat Byrne. The four spent weeks living together, sleeping in the same room and writing and recording all day (and often all night).

"One of the perks of writing with your best friends is they've lived through your love life in real time," Lola says. "There's no part of the session where you have to explain what your ex was like."

Zodiac came together during a separate writing trip, this time alone in a farmhouse in Firefly. Lola took the lead on production, working largely independently and tracking most of the instrumentation herself before bringing the stems back to Sydney, where Oscar Sharah added additional production.

Reflecting on her growth as a producer, Lola says: “I’ve been producing demos since I was in high school, but it’s only been recently that I’ve really found my sound and confidence in myself as a producer. For that reason, I’m more proud of these songs than anything I’ve previously released.”
