Melbourne four-piece Kingswood have shared their sixth studio album, The Tales of G.C.Townes. To celebrate the release, the band are taking us behind-the-scenes of their time spent working on the record.

Kingswood will continue their national tour in Fremantle tonight, before taking their live show to Margaret River, Bunbury, Albury, Launceston, Heybridge, Hobart, Tamworth, Alice Springs, Darwin, Bendigo and Geelong.

I love this photo, I can’t even recall who took it, but it captures the essence of recording this album. We had no schedule, no start or finish time, we just lived on a ranch at the foot of Mt Tamborine and enjoyed life, and when inspiration struck, we went into the studio.

Whenever we record we like to enhance our surroundings to help create an environment best suited to the feeling of a song or record. For this album we always had old westerns playing silently in the tracking and console room.

Here we we Josh, Al and Guus having a good old laugh in the lounge area of my caravan. We’d often end up here after a day in the studio. Very good times.

Forgive the lack of ‘studio pics’. We are generally a phones down in the studio band but that does mean we never end up with many pics. The ranch had many beautiful horses that we got to know over our time there. Often in the mornings before we got to work. It was always nice to take a break from the band and go for a walk and talk to the horses.

Found one, here I am looking pretty tired during a vocal, I think Glass Half Full. This is one of my favorite places, I love the recording process and getting into character if need be. Our process is never the same, sometimes we sit and take about the song to get there, sometimes we lie down and but bricks on the chest to limit breathing, sometimes we get very drunk very quickly, sometimes it takes one or two takes and it’s immediately there.
