Sydney based artist Oly Sherman has released his soulful new track, The World Is In A Bad Room. The song navigates the current state of the world, with the singer sharing his own personal battles and the weight of our choices and decisions.
Expertly showcasing the musicians vivid lyricism and rich vocals, there is a depth and understated soulful edge to the song. The track was recorded between Sherman’s home studio and Kiln Studios in St Peters, with Daniel Natoli on mixing duties, a longtime collaborator of Sherman’s. The song encapsulates feelings of unrest, confusion and indecision set to a relaxed soundscape. When speaking of the track, Sherman shared: “A mixed mindset between the torn up world we’re trying to get through, and my own mind. The song basically encapsulates our decisions when weighed up with friends, relationships and social media.”
With a string of sold-out performances set for later this month at The Vanguard, the singer has crafted his recent releases to suit his dynamic live shows. “I wanted to create something with a consistent groove, and [that] allows the band and I to play freely live. The recording process was really quick, with the chord structure and vocals taking only a day to lay down. I just fiddled with the tune for the next month until I arrived at something I was super, super happy with.” Sherman shared.
Sherman released his sophomore EP last year, Three Oh Three, which saw the singer take to the stage at the Newtown Festival, Sydney Beer Festival and tour as a support act with artists such as Slum Sociable, Kim Churchill and New Zealand’s Louis Baker. Earlier this year, Sherman kicked off 2020 with a mammoth 11 performances across Japan, soon after returning home to lend his talents in the form of a performance to raise funds for the Bushfire Relief.
