Australian rock outfit Ocean Alley have treated us with their new single, Deepest Darkness. Alongside the release the band have shared the songs official visual, directed by W.A.M. Bleakley.
Leaning into the psychedelic-infused sounds present throughout their catalogue, Deepest Darkest places frontman Baden Donegal's hypnotic vocals above reverb-drenched guitar melodies and driving percussion, building to a frenzied chorus. The track explores a pure love that can face even life's darkest days and remain intact and stronger than ever.
“This song is about being so deeply in love with someone and realising how important their support can be to you… that you literally go through the deepest and darkest times together, and that unity makes you so much stronger. It’s from the perspective of imagining what it would feel like to go through life’s tough spots on your own, and having a huge appreciation for the support you receive.” frontman Baden Donegal shares
Guitarist Mitch Galbraith adds, “At conception, the song was super chilled - just based off chords Lach was working at on the keyboard and some lyrics Baden wrote during early COVID. It felt right as we kept adding thickness to the chorus, so we just went with it, and now it’s really captivating and powerful. It’s obviously a very different feeling to ‘Touch Back Down’ which is uplifting and playful, whereas ’Deepest Darkness' has a heavy mysteriousness to it, but we consciously wanted to give listeners a taste of the other vibes we’ve been experimenting with while writing new music.”
Ocean Alley will wrap up their current tour with a show at Fremantle Arts Centre in Perth on May 28, with a new date for their performance at Waves in Wollongong set to be announced soon. The will also appear at Lost Paradise from December 28 December to January 1, before joining the Falls Festival tour and performing in Colac, Byron Bay and Fremantle across December 29 to January 8. The band are also set to announce a rescheduled
