Nick Murphy (a.k.a. Chet Faker) has shared his new album, Take In The Roses, under the musical project Nick Murphy & The Program. The release arrives alongside an official visual for Old Dog, featuring the musicians own footage from a road trip with his father.
Murphy penned the album prior to the pandemic, recording the majority of the body of work live at the legendary Sonic Ranch in Tornillo in Texas. Leaning into Americana influences, with subtle folk threads laced throughout and intricately woven into the albums mesmerising sonic exploration. Murphy's enchanting vocal performance rings across the ten tracks, bringing to life his signature introspective and poetic lyricism that offer moments of intimacy and reflection.
“This record is important for a lot of reasons, but if I had to choose one, it’s that it was fun to make,” Murphy says of Take In The Roses. He adds of the visual for Old Dog, “I had these super8 rolls from a road trip with my dad. I can’t really imagine anything else for the song. That wasn’t the plan of course. It never is.”
Produced by his longtime collaborator Dave Harrington (Darkside), the record serves as the first release with Murphys new band, made up of Nick Kinsey (Waxahatchee, Kevin Morby), Jake Falby (Chet Faker, Julie Byrne), Tim Lappin and Tim Mislock.
