MIDDLE KIDS OFFER ANOTHER GLIMPSE INTO THEIR NEW ALBUM

Alt indie rock outfit Middle Kids have shared another glimpse into their sophomore album, with the release of their new single Cellophane (Brain). The track expertly exhibits the bands musicianship and skills as songwriters, encapsulating the ambition they're bringing to their new record.

The darker track offers a more vulnerable side to the band, whilst also ushering in a new bold era of sound for the three-piece. Cellophane (Brain) builds to a crescendo, complete with ethereal vocals that soar atop a mesmerising guitar-led soundscape.

Speaking of the track, front woman Hannah Joy shares: “I remember making a diorama in primary school for an under-the-ocean scene using cellophane. I loved the way cellophane looked but I hated the way it crunched and creased in my hands. It’s one of those weird things you remember sometimes… I’m not even sure if cellophane is an exact metaphor for my mind but it feels connected to the song for me,” she reveals, continuing, “When I consciously started taking note of what was going on in my brain it was usually anxious and negative. If my mind is a minefield of fear and sadness, nothing else can shift my overall sense of myself. But to change one's thinking is incredibly hard. It’s an inner journey with little extrinsic reward or accountability.”

Made up of Joy, multi-instrumentalist Tim Fitz and drummer Harry Day, the trio recorded their sophomore record in Los Angeles with producer Lars Stalfors (St.Vincent, Soccer Mommy, Purity Ring). Taking on a more conceptual form, Today We’re The Greatest is set to be the trios most personal and courages release to date, an open and uninhibited body of work formed from fearless collaboration. The album follows up the bands 2018 debut album Lost Friends which saw them take the world by storm, touring with the likes of Bloc Party, War on Drugs and Cold War Kids.

To celebrate their new music, Middle Kids will be hitting the road on their first headline Australian and New Zealand Tour in almost two years. Dubbed the ‘Today We're The Greatest Tour’, the trio will kick off the string of shows in Brisbane before continuing onto Melbourne and rounding the tour out with a hometown show at City Recital Hall in Sydney. Newly announced second shows in Sydney and Melbourne are on sale now.

Today We're The Greatest is out March 19. Listen to Cellophane (Brain) below.
