Brisbane duo McDermott & North have shared their new single, Elope.
Opening with lulling guitar melodies, the down-tempo release builds to a heartwarming chorus, driven by the duos signature folk-rock sonic realm. Paddy McDermott's compelling vocals hold the listeners attention, bringing the songs intimate lyricism to life with his emotion-led performance. The track explores the bright glow of first love and the want to spend the rest of your days together, romanticising running away to elope regardless of anyone else's thoughts.
'How naive that total infatuation you feel for your first true love is, how you would blindly commit to leaving everyone and everything to be solely with that person. Though the relationship didn’t last, the song stands to represent the concept more than it does the person whom it was written for. It’s something many have experienced at some point and the melody serves to further romanticise those times and feelings." McDermott shares.
To celebrate the release, McDermott & North are hitting the road! Kicking off this Friday at The Gasometer Hotel in Melbourne, the tour will continue on to Sydney, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, before wrapping up on the Gold Coast on October 23. The duo are also set to support Alex Lloyd in Mackay, Townsville and Cairns next month. Tickets to all shows are on sale now.
Having met at an open mic night in their home town of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, the pair soon began working together, taking to the streets of Brisbane and busking around town. Made up of McDermott and Rhys North, the duo have since released a string of singles and their debut EP, The Lemon Tapes Vol. 1.
