GRAMMY® Award-winning multiplatinum artist Lorde has dropped another track before her highly anticipated third album, Solar Power, arrives this Friday! Mood Ring serves as the third taste of the album, bringing Natalie Imbruglia vibes within 60's inspired sonics,
Continuing the breezy vibe of her recent singles, Mood Ring is arguably one of the more pop focused songs we've heard from the singer. Referencing the early 2000's lyrically and sonically, the track offers up Lorde's own thoughts and takes on wellness culture, in search for a spiritual replenishment through a satirical approach. The song arrives alongside an aesthetically stunning visual, introducing us to a blonde haired Lorde who embodies the themes present throughout Mood Ring.
Speaking of the track, the singer shares: "This is a song I am very excited about, it’s so much fun to me. Obviously when making this album I did a deep-dive into 60s, Flower Child culture. I wanted to understand the commune life, dropping out from society and trying to start again. That really resonated to me when writing this album. One thing that occurred to me as a major parallel between that time and our time is our wellness culture and our culture of spirituality, pseudo-spirituality, wellness, pseudo-wellness. Things like eating a macro-biotic vegan diet or burning sage, keeping crystals, reading tarot cards or your horoscope. These were all things that they were dabbling in back then, and that me and my girlfriends are dabbling in today. I was like “I think there’s a pop song in here”. So this is kind of my extremely satirical look at all of those vibes.”
The album will arrive with twelve brand new songs, including Solar Power, and two additional bonus tracks. Lorde also shared in her newsletter the album is available for pre-order on exclusive formats, inlcuding "a beautiful standard vinyl with a sky-blue disc, and a very juicy deluxe vinyl only available on my site with the sickest giant foldout poster". This time around, the singer is opting out of physical CD's, instead creating what she calls a "music box", which will arrive looking similar to a CD case, but instead symbolises the artists "commitment to asking questions of our systems, and making stuff with intention and sensitivity." This new format will contain extra visual content, handwritten notes, exclusive photos, and a download card.
Lorde will make her grand return to the stage next year, kicking off The Solar Power World Tour in Christchruch on February 26. The tour will make its way to Australia next March, with stops in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. In a newsletter to fans, the singer said of the tour: "This is gonna be such a sick tour. We’ve just hired five new band members...............This is, thrillingly, something of an INTIMATE TOUR. Theatres and green fields rather than arenas. So you gotta get in there if you really wanna go."
