After scoring a whopping eight nominations for this years ARIA Awards, including Song Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Best Pop Release and Best Group, Lime Cordiale are back with six new tracks on the deluxe edition of their sophomore record. Not only have the swept in to save 2020 with their new songs, but they’ve also shared a damn good music video for the lead singe off 14 Steps To A Better You (Relapse), Reality Check Please.
Set in a restaurant, the visual sees the brother duo Oli and Louis Leimbach waiting on tables and cooking up a storm for their sometimes obnoxious customers whilst the brothers try to keep their sanity. After a champagne cork knocks Oli on the noggin, he wakes up to dance party with the customers and life is better than ever. “We had a great time working with director Courtney Brookes on this clip,” says Oli Leimbach shared of the video. “After recently returning from living in New York, Courtney has been through a challenging reality check herself. We filmed in a classic Chinese restaurant in Western Sydney and really didn’t have to do much in terms of set dressing. The song is centred around not knowing if it’s you that’s insane or the the world around you. Everyone is going through this at the moment. The song and music video are based around a restaurant setting but you can feel this way wherever you might be - at home, with your parents, in the hospital, the gym...” he adds.
The new collection of songs came to be after the band found themselves with more time on their hands than expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unable to keep them down, the Leimbach brothers hit the studio to work on new music, music that they felt continued the story of 14 Steps To A Better You. “It didn’t feel like we were writing for another album, these songs felt like unfinished business. We’re excited to be able to deliver six new ‘steps’ for those that didn’t feel fulfilled with the self-help guide we’d already given. For those that have relapsed, this one’s for you,” Oli shares of the new collection of songs.
With over 172 million streams combined, 14 Steps To A Better You is full of everyday life situations. Dealing and commenting on love and friendships, referencing the camaraderie of friendships and the intimacy of companionship. With the title parodying self-help books, the tracks offer lessons to their listeners. The record promotes kindness and helping not only the people around you, but the world itself. It is a body of work that shows not only the sonic development of the band throughout their career, but also the growth they have undertaken within their personal lives
Earlier this year, the band completed 48 sold-out performances in Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle and Adelaide. The intimate Speakeasy Listening Parties coincided with the release of their sophomore record. Next, they’ll perform two-sold out shows in Newcastle for the Great Southern Nights, in addition to rescheduled sold-out performances in Adelaide and Brisbane.
