American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor, Joshua Bassett has treated fans with three new tracks, Crisis / Secret / Set Me Free, which arrive alongside beautiful visual accompaniments.
The three-song package sees the musician ruminate on the past year of his life, covering periods grief, emotional trauma and a move towards healing, whilst also setting the record straight on love lost. Each songs visual play into an overarching narrative that follows the musician from a sunset photoshoot to the serene sands of a desolate beach.
“While it’s been one of the most challenging periods in my lifetime by far; it has ultimately led to immense growth. I’ve been up, down, and everywhere in between,” Bassett says. “Each of these songs pinpoint a different moment in time, in my processing.”
He continues, “My hope is that those going through similar things feel heard and seen and can step closer to healing. While it’s important to express my truth in art, I do not wish ill will on anyone, nor do I endorse using art as fuel for negativity. I truly hope the peace I’ve found amidst this challenging year encourages others to keep going and know that there really is light at the end of the tunnel.”
Earlier this year, Bassett dropped his debut self-titled EP. Opening with the dreamy and shimmering Sorry, the release serves as a documentation of moments within the musicians life, covering a variety of personal themes and commenting on the human experience, with a particular focus on relationships. The delicate fingerpicking on Do It All Again showcases the another side of the musicians instrumental abilities, with Heaven Is You serving as a final striking moment on the EP.
Basset is a multi instrumentalist, playing piano, guitar, and drums and also writes and produces his own music. Having performed in musicals since the age of eight, he began his career ad an actor, staring in television programs such as Stuck In The Middle, Grey’s Anatomy and Lethal Weapon before landing a lead role Disney + High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Signing to Warner Records shortly after the shows premiere, Bassett released his debut single Common Sense, in 2020 before beginning to work on his debut EP.
