American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor, Joshua Bassett has shared his first taste of new music for the year with Doppelgänger.

The confessional release sees the singer come to the realisation he still has feelings for his previous partner, sparked by an encounter with someone who bared resemblance to her. Bassett's powerful vocals glide above plucked acoustics, building towards floating falsetto from the musician. Co-directed by Bassett and Elle Mills, the song captures that chance encounter in a coffee shop, with flashes of the musician recalling on his past relationship.

“The song poured out of me immediately after seeing someone who I thought was my ex at a coffee shop,” the rising hitmaker says. “Sucker punched in the heart, I realized I'm not quite as over them as I thought, and that no one, not even a look-alike, could ever take their place.” Bassett shares.

Early last year, Bassett dropped his debut self-titled EP. Opening with the dreamy and shimmering Sorry, the release serves as a documentation of moments within the musicians life, covering a variety of personal themes and commenting on the human experience, with a particular focus on relationships. He followed the EP up with a three-track release, Crisis / Secret / Set Me Free.

Basset is a multi instrumentalist, playing piano, guitar, and drums and also writes and produces his own music. Having performed in musicals since the age of eight, he began his career ad an actor, staring in television programs such as Stuck In The Middle, Grey’s Anatomy and Lethal Weapon before landing a lead role Disney + High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
