Sydney-based post-punk rockers Johnny Hunter have announced their debut album, Want, will arrive this June. Alongside the news arrives a brand new track from the record, Dreams.

Produced by Jack Moffitt (The Preatures) and mixed by critically acclaimed engineer Adam Greenspan (IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), the album is set to explore and document the human existence, focusing on a self-examination that leads to self-actualisation. Dreams captures the ever-changing state of life, built upon uplifting guitar melodies and frontman Nick Hutt's hypnotic vocals.

Speaking of the track, Hutt shares: The Sydney I grew up in is a very different Sydney to the one we live in today. Iconic buildings have been knocked down for skyrise apartments and famous music venues destroyed by political legislation. One day you are walking down the street in the sunshine, and the next you’re confined to the four walls of your own bedroom. Johnny Hunter started playing live music during the death of live music in Sydney - wallowing in self pity and declaring the current state of affairs to be insurmountable would result in this band not existing. The same goes for experiencing any modern day hardships - we can’t dwell upon them, we need to run with them in order to progress.”

Having signed to Cooking Vinyl Australia earlier this year, the four-piece are teasing the release of their debut album, set to drop this year. Following on from their 2021 autumn tour, the band shared their first taste of new music with The Floor, which arrived alongside a dramatic visual, directed by Dakota Fisher. Johnny Hunter's debut EP Early Trauma introduced listeners to their avant-garde approach to post-punk, with their audience growing with each release

Want is out June 24! Watch the visual for Dreams below.
