Musical comedian Tom Cardy is one of the individuals who took his newfound free time during the pandemic, and transformed something he describes as a hobby into a bonafide career. Taking to TikTok, Cardy began sharing relatable video sketches that melded his talents for comedy and composing, soon earning him a legion of fans after going viral worldwide.
Having studied psychology and music at Sydney University, all the while having grown up immersing himself within the study of instruments, Cardy turned to comedy, working on his improv, his writing and performing in several arts reviews. The artist was soon selling out his own comedy festival shows and imparting his improv wisdom onto students, whilst also tackling composing for the likes of SBS’ The Feed, Amazon series The Moth Effect and the award winning musical Inner West Side Story. All these explorations of his multifaceted artistry fed into his creative content outlet.
With over 70M TikTok views, 8.5M Spotify Streams and 12.2M views on YouTube under his belt, Cardy's newfound platform and legion of fans offered the space to deliver his debut album, Artifical Intelligence. Bringing his signature brand of comedy meets 70's and 80's inspired sonics, the artist shares his own stories that capture relatable everyday moments creating shared experiences with his music. His satirical lyricism perfectly captures how we all feel in ridiculously unbelievable, yet completely relatable scenarios, bringing a fierce and unapologetic honesty.
Having debuted at #40 on the ARIA album charts before reaching #8, the album debuted at number one on the AIR 100 Independent Album Charts and scored Cardy two entries into this years triple j Hottest 100. Mixed Messages and H.Y.C.Y.B.H. grabbed the #17 and #11 spot on the countdown, no easy feat for an artist who has only just debuted. Cardy is set to bring his live show to Splendour In The Grass this July, keeping tight lipped on the surprises he has in store, the musician promises fun to be had for all.
