HAPPY EX-MAS FROM MUKI

Image: Supplied.

Sydney artist MUKI wants you to stop buying your partner Christmas presents! Let’s be honest, her logic checks out.

Penned as a Christmas break-up single, Happy Ex-mas is all about scrapping your partner off your Christmas shopping list, because by the time Santa rolls into town, you might just be single. You won’t be needing to sing the WHAM! classic Last Christmas next year if you don’t give them anything this year - see, it all checks out!

Speaking of the track, MUKI shares: "I was in London (my favourite city), it was Christmas time (the best time to be in London...mulled wine, Christmas lights), and I was with my partner at the time, and they were pissing me off so much that I wrote down a note on my phone: ‘I am not getting you a gift for Christmas...happy ex-mas’ and really that was the beginning of the end of our relationship and this thought/lyric sat as a note in my phone for three years, until now.

The musician recently released Level Mind Fuck, the first taste of her full length body of work, set to drop next year. Accompanied by a futuristic visual, the track and music video are inspired by Ridley Scott’s 1982 Blade Runner.

Having written for artists such as Briggs, PACES, The Veronicas and Jessica Mauboy, MUKI stepped out from behind the scenes, launching her career with her debut single, Sassaparilla. Building up a fanbase, and after a string of singles, the singer dropped her debut EP It Won’t Hurt, which landed her a supporting slot on 5 Seconds Of Summer’s Australian arena tour. The musician has received two ARIA ward Nominations for her co-writing work on Jessica Mauboy’s record Hilda and Briggs’ Always Was EP.

Happy Ex-mas is out now! Listen to the song below.
