Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C. have blessed us with the news of their highly-awaited third studio album, Skinty Fia. Due out this April, the five-piece have shared the first taste of the record with their new single Jackie Down The Line.
Teaming up once again with producer Dan Carey, the beguiling track is heralded by frontman Grian Chatten's captivating vocal performance playing our above simmering guitar work and driving percussion. Offering up a self-destructive perspective, the track arrives alongside an official visual, directed by Hugh Mulhern and starring multidisciplinary artist, MC, dancer, and choreographer, Blackhaine.
Set to be an expansive and cinematic body of work, Skinty Fia takes its name from an Irish phrase, which translates to “the damnation of the deer”, something captured within the albums artwork. Bringing new insight and maturity, the record will document the bands thoughts on Irish identity and how their Irish roots play into their new lives abroad.
Fontaines D.C. debut album Dogrel debuted in the Top 10 on the UK album charts, and went on to score a Mercury Prize nomination, #1 Album of the Year positions from BBC 6 Music and Rough Trade and saw the band embark on sold-out tours across the UK. The followed the record up with a darker take on A Hero’s Death, incorporating notes of psychedelia. Peaking at #2, the album went on to score the band their first GRAMMY nomination.
Skinty Fia is out April 22. Watch the visual for Jackie Down The Line below!
