The King and Queen of Pop, Elton John and Britney Spears have dropped the visual for their chart-topping collaboration, Hold Me Closer. The track is also available for pre-order in three collectible, limited-edition CD single formats.
Directed by Award-winning director, Tanu Muino captures the intimacy of human embrace, capturing the longing to be reunited and together once more that was felt across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filmed in Mexico City, vibrant scenes unfurl throughout the visual, as we follow couplets of dancers throughout the city.
"This was an emotional one for me as I grew up with Britney. After seeing "SlaveFor You," I decided that I wanted to become a video director. Elton John is an icon that I and the world grew up listening to,” On the creative direction, Muino continued, "Going into this video, I knew there would be a lot of emotional expectations the audience and fans would have. With this responsibility, I had to do something different and unexpected. The visuals had to be different. The dance had to be forward-thinking to raise eyebrows and make Elton and Britney proud. To capture this magic, we shot around all my favorite architectural locations in Mexico City and brought on choreographer Jacob Jonas who does the best contemporary choreography today. Getting the best dancers, crew, and access to some of the most private locations in the world was simple as everyone wanted to work with Elton John and be part of his legacy."
Bringing together a trio of John's iconic tracks, Tiny Dancer, The One and Don't Go Breaking My Heart, the euphoric remix features production from Andrew Watt and brings the classic tracks into a contemporary sonic realm, Spears breathy and ethereal vocals are perfectly wrapped around John's booming performance, creating a heavenly unity. Proving she's back and better than ever, Spears mesmerising vocal runs take centre stage throughout the song, ushering in a welcomed return for the global superstar.
Hold Me Closer topped the the ARIA singles chart, debuting at #1. The track follows John's triumphant 2021 single Cold Heart (PNAU Remix), which took out the top spot on the charts for 10 non-consecutive weeks, and marks his 21st top ten single in Australia. John will return to Australia early next year, following an extensive 2019 run of shows down under on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. Kicking off in Newcastle on January 8, the musicians final Australian stadium tour will continue on to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, before travelling to New Zealand. Tickets are on sale now!
