Australian musician Cody Simpson has dropped the music video for Captain’s Dance with the Devil, a track inspired by the singers new poetry book. The narrative of the song is about a young sailor longing to be free, using the sailor metaphor to tell the story of a teenage heroin addict.

The music video is a collaboration between Simpson and his partner, singer Miley Cyrus. Cyrus not only directed the music video, she also took on the role of cinematographer and stylist. Miley’s take on the song shows the struggle with society’s views of masculinity. In the video, Simpson switches between different characters - himself, Prince Neptune (his poetry pen name) and a new drag alter ego.

The lo-fi clip takes on a split-screen format, showcase all these personas at once. From the nautically dressed Prince Neptune, to the vintage dressed Rebecca with Slices of Cody mixed in-between.

The native Queenslander rose to fame in 2010 with his debut single iYiYi, and has since released three studio albums, nine EP’s and starred on broadway as Dmitry in the hit musical Anastasia, based on the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. Most recently, Simpson returned home to compete on The Masked Singer Australia, taking home the trophy.
