18-year old singer-songwriter Budjerah has shared his debut single, Missing You. Infusing elements of gospel and soul with pop and R’n’B, the track navigates feelings of isolation, something the singer knows is a universal emotion in our present day. Exhibiting the singers silky smooth vocals, the refreshing track captivates its listeners with its timeless qualities and big, chilled out anthemic chorus.
Budjerah is set to release his debut EP in the near future, with ARIA and J Award-winning artist Matt Corby producing the release. The pair worked tirelessly on the EP, crafting the sound that would introduce the world to Budjerah’s musical abilities. “In my music, I think of how I'm going to use my voice as an instrument before the melody and anything else. Matt is classically trained, so he pushed me vocally. We both really like the real, organic sounds of instruments.” the singer shared.
The release is accompanied by a carefree music video, directed by Mos & Co. The visual highlights the spirt of summer, and depicts the singer within his home town of Fingal Head, where Corby’s studio is also located. Influenced by growing up within a musical family, Budjerah says, "I grew up singing Sam Cooke and listening to gospel singers like The Clark Sisters. My dad taught me how to sing and that's the kind of music that has been around since I was little."
Budjerah will perform a string of headline shows in Lismore, Hurstville and Tumut for Great Southern Nights this November. Tickets are available here.
