New Zealand sibling duo BROODS are back with their anthemic new track, Piece Of My Mind. The first taste of new music from the duo in two years, the track offers the first glimpse into their fourth studio album, Space Island.
Expanding their sonic realm, Piece Of My Mind is an electric thrill from the duo, building upon the groundwork set on 2019’s Don’t Feed The Pop Monster. Conceptually, the release juxtaposes the brighter sonics with darker lyricism, as the duo navigate grief and denial, playing out atop production from Stint (Mø and Carly Rae Jepsen).
Speaking of the track, front woman Georgia Nott shares: “Piece Of My Mind is the opening fanfare of Space Island. The song describes the many paradoxes we encounter when we try to escape our problems - the more we try to run away from our problems and ourselves, the more we are confronted with the aspects of each that we don’t like.‘Piece of My Mind’ is the moment I start reasoning with myself at the crossroads - to figure out where I am, and what’s really at the heart of what I’m denying and trying to escape.’
The release is accompanied by an out of this world visual, introducing audiences to the realm of Space Island. Shot on 35mm and 16mm film in the South Island of New Zealand, the clip was inspired by sci-fi horror classics “We really just got to have fun and play,” says Caleb Nott. “We wanted to do something really special, because we don't know when people are going to be able to go to live shows next,” adds Georgia, “So we wanted to create this world that people could come and visit from wherever they are.”
