Bon Iver, Patti Smith And Her Band and Jimmy Barnes will headline Bluesfest 2021! The festival dropped its mammoth line up today, featuring a mix of international and local artists. This is the first lineup announcement for the 2021 with several more announcements to come
After cancelling this years event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival will return from April 1 to 5 in Byron Bay, next year. The first line up announcement includes many artists who were slated to appear at this years event before its cancellation. This includes John Butler, Xavier Rudd, The Cat Empire, George Benson, Morcheeba, John Mayall, and Buffy Sainte-Marie. Jimmy Barnes, Kasey Chambers and more have been added.
One of the most notable absences is Alanis Morisstte, who was slated to headline the festival this year. The singer had announced an Australian arena tour scheduled for the same time. These shows have now been rescheduled to November this year.
In a statement, festival director Peter Noble said “Bluesfest 2021 will be much more than the music on stage and the wonderful audience along with all those who present it,” he said. “It will be an integral part of the return of the live music industry.”
He addressed the possibility that the music industry may not be back to normal come April next year. “It’s a long way to next Easter and by that time travel restrictions are sure to be different,” Noble added. “In the case of no international travel I’ve programmed a damn good line-up of locals and a vibrant festival experience, so people can come out and play.”
