Ghanian-Australian artist BLESSED has revealed his debut album, AUSSIE BLACKSTAR, is set to arrive this June via Matt Corby’s Rainbow Valley Records. The musician has offered up a new taste of the record with the release of LOVE YOURSELF.
The emotive track places BLESSED's compelling vocal and flow above driving 808s and plucked guitar work, paired with the musicians signature hip-hop based sonics, laced with subtle pop melodies. LOVE YOURSELF joins DOWN UNDER and NO CHANGES on AUSSIE BLACKSTAR, which is set to arrive as an 11-track body of work and navigate the tumultuous events of the past few years.
“Australia is one of the most multicultural places on the earth and that’s not being showcased. We have a deeper history of deeper culture. I feel like right now, there’s a big awakening to a mass consciousness. People are starting to wake up. The people are changing, the people’s voices are getting louder, but the system isn’t changing.” BLESSED shares of the album.
“As a kid growing up here, I was always looking outside our borders. I was looking to America and trying to be American. But that’s not me, I didn’t grow up there. I really wish I had people to look up to, to say, ‘it’s cool to be where you’re from’. I want to make a difference in that way.”
To celebrate his debut full-length release, BLESSED is teaming up with Sydney-based designer JODY JUST to launch a limited edition run of merchandise. The collection is available to pre-order now.
