ARIA AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED!

Lime Cordiale lead with 8 ARIA Award nominations


In seven weeks time, the ultimate celebration of Australian music returns! The 2020 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube Music will once again take place at The Star in Sydney, however for the first time in the award shows history, there will be no live audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony will be broadcast around Australia on the Nine Network, and around the world on YouTube. Today, the ARIA Awards launched their season, reading all the nominees across the … categories, live on YouTube.


No surprises here, Sydney’s alt-pop duo Lime Cordiale have amassed a staggering eight nominations for their hit record, 14 Steps To A Better You. The albums single Robbery is nominated for Song Of The Year presented by YouTube Music, with other nominations including Album of the Year, Best Pop Release and Best Group for their latest record which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts. With over 172 million streams, the band have 7 ARIA Gold accreditations under their belt already. The band are followed up by one of Australia’s most loved acts, Tame Impala. The musical project of Kevin Parker has scored seven nominations, with Parker nominated for Album of the Year, Best Pop Release, Best Rock Album and Best Group, as well as Engineer of the Year and Producer of the Year.\ for their fourth studio album, The Slow Rush.


Zambian-born, Botswana-raised and now Melbourne-based Sampa The Great, has secured herself six nominations, following her win for Best Hip Hop Release at the 2019 ceremony, making the musician the the first woman of colour to win an ARIA Award in that category. Whilst accepting her award, Sampa utilised the opportunity to speak about the importance of diversity & change within the Australian music industry. Her critically acclaimed debut album, The Return, debuted on the ARIA Charts at #12 and #6 on the ARIA Vinyl Chart. Following with five nominations is Indigenous artist Miiesha. The musician is top for the prestigious Best Female Artist and Best Soul/R&B Release awards to name a few for her breakthrough acclaimed record, Nyaaringu. Sydney indie-rock band DMA’S join Miiesha with five nominations for their hit record, THE GLOW. Debuting at #2 on the ARIA Charts, the release has secured the group nominations for Best Group and Best Rock Album

Violent Soho, who swept the awards in 2016 are joined by Ruel with both acts sitting on four nominations. Violent Soho’s ARIA #1 album “Everything Is A-OK” is up for Best Rock Album and Best Video presented by YouTube Music to name a few, with Ruel securing a spot in the Best Male Artist, and Song Of The Year Presented By YouTube Music categories.


Coming in at three nominations are previous ARIA Award winners Amy Shark, Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, The Teskey Brothers, Tones and I, Troye Sivan. They are joined by ARIA Hall Of Fame recipients Cold Chisel, as well as Breakthrough Artist Nominee The Kid LAROI and 2020 National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMA) winner of Artist Of The Year, Baker Boy, who all secured 3 nominations this year.

The nominees for the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Award, supported by The Song Room, are CJ Shaw from Palmerston District Primary School, Canberra; Kathryn McLennan from Virginia State School, Queensland; Sarah Donnelley from Wilcannia Central School, NSW; and Thomas Fienberg from Evans High School, NSW. This is the fourth year the ARIAs have run this award, which recognises music teachers and the hard work they undertake educating the younger generations in music.


This years ceremony will see the return of a number of categories to the small screen. After almost a decade of having not been televised, the awards for Best Classical Album, Best Jazz Album, Best World Music Album and Best Original Soundtrack or Musical Theatre Cast Album and Artisan awards – which include Best Producer, Best Jazz Album and Best Cover Art will be in this years broadcast.
