Meanjin-based artist Aren’t has unveiled his beautiful debut EP, Creatures of Habit. The musical project of Requin's Fionn Richards, the musician has released 30 cassette tapes which will also include an exclusive b-side and three pieces of poetry written and read by Fionn.

Produced by Cameron Smith (Incremental Records), the EP is built upon mesmerising guitar work and swelling strings laced throughout, heralded by Richards' enchanting vocals. Mostly recorded live, the organic nature of the collection of songs shines through atop minimal production, with Richards performing guitar, cello and piano across the tracks.

Written over a period of six years, each song serves as a time capsule of moments within the musicians life, ruminating on love, loss, accountability and moving on. Reflective and introspective lyricism are brought to life by intricate and evocative melodies, that warmly wrap themselves around you and draw you in to the realm of Creatures of Habit.

Richards enlists a number of collaborators on the release, including Helen Franzmann (McKisko, Mess Esque), Georgia Harvey (Yffer, Seagull, Cold Hands Warm Heart) and Cameron Smith (Spirit Bunny, St Augustus, Ghost Notes, Terra Pines). Each artist lends their individual talents to the release, together creating a captivating body of work.

To celebrate the release, Richards will take to the stage for two performances in Brisbane this month. The musician will perform an intimate launch show at Can You Keep A Secret? on December 9th with label-mate Lite Fails, before playing at Team Glasses End of Year Xmas Party on December 18. Tickets to both shows are on sale now!
