Watch our interview with Annie Hamilton below!
Eora/Sydney-based multi-disciplinary artist, Annie Hamilton is back with her new single, slut era.
The bold and anthemic track finds the singer embracing defiance and challenging the archaic views and ideas placed upon women when compared to their male counterparts. Produced by Hamilton alongside Jake Webb of Methyl Ethel, slut era's industrial soundscape echoes the songs thematic standpoint and creates a riotous listening experience. The release is accompanied by a self-directed visual.
Hamilton says of the release, "slut era is an expression of the feeling of being bombarded with impossible patriarchal and societal standards. The chorus encapsulates the absurdity of these expectations - 'gotta be shareable! vulnerable! fuckable! relatable! dinner-on-a-plateable! burn-her-at-the-stakeable!' - It's a commentary on the Madonna/whore complex, the inescapable pressures of social media and the inherent biases that women and femme-identifying people face.”
