Melbourne duo Ally Row have shared their light-hearted debut single, why do i care. To celebrate the release, the duo have shared their Top 5 Favourite Up and Coming Artists with MILKY!

Speaking of the track, Ally Row share: "why do i care is an uplifting indie folk song about overcoming the pressure to please everyone; learning to have trust in yourself and in the choices you make. This song was written during the 2020 COVID lockdowns in Victoria, Australia. It left Ally Row with the liberating feeling that life is too short to push your passions aside.”

Without further adieu, here are Ally Row's Top 5 Favourite Up and Coming Artists...

ERNEST AINES

His deft fingerpicking style, a voice made of caramel, and his exceptionally moving and story-driven songs make Ernest one of our biggest picks! Our favourite song of his at the moment is River Mouth. If that doesn’t give you goosebumps, we don’t know what will. We have been following him for a few months after seeing him open for Charm of Finches. We are honestly surprised that he is still ‘up and coming’ because he deserves to fill a stadium.

MARIGOLDEN

A remarkable blend of jazz, RnB and soul, marigolden oozes charm and grace in her smooth, and empowering music. We have been following her since last year and just consistently blown away by her talent and determination. Her rhythmic lyricism is unique, poetic and moving. Definitely one to watch!

SNARK

Even though it delves away from our traditional genres, Snark seriously are killing it in the alternative punk rock music scene. Their songs and production are seamless. Every element to their music is so clean and tight. You can just tell that they are serious players. We love the way they blend both modern punk rock with the more nostalgic shiny pop hooks of the earlier 2000s. They are a bunch of talented musicians and amazing people. Go check ‘em out.

THORNE

If you want to dance, Thorne’s music will get you bopping to his tasty tunes and groovy beats. We went on our first ‘unofficial’ date to one of his gigs at the Grace Darling in Melbourne 2019, and it was INSANE. We love one of his earlier songs Loved You – he gives us serious Jamiroquai cross Craig David vibes. What a voice, what a talent! He is such a lovely person too. We highly recommend adding his music to your dance playlists.

BEC SYKES

Her beautiful tone and minimalist arrangements of piano and guitar combined with moody melodies make Bec Sykes an absolute must listen. She has mastered the art of emo-folk and continues to give us goosebumps. The music video and song Edithvale took us on an emotional rollercoaster; it was so beautifully relatable and simple. Her vibe is similar to Sarah McLachlan, Regina Spektor, Gretta Ray… incredibly emotive.
