Adelaide-born, Melbourne-based artist, rapper and songwriter Allday has shared his new single, Eyes on The Prize, following on from the release of his fourth studio album, Drinking With My Smoking Friends.

Speaking of the track, the musician shares: "The day I started this beat I was wearing a world cup soccer t-shirt that said “EYES ON THE PRIZE” and that sounded like a good title. I took it to Simon Lam to finish the beat. I was just saying lines into the mic to make Simon laugh. We thought it sounded pretty fun so that is the song. It’s not too deep. After making other genres for a while, making rap is fun again."

Drinking With My Smoking Friends saw Allday team up with a slew of Aussie talent, ranging from Johnny Took and Matt Mason from DMA's on guitar to Simon Lam of electro outfit KLLO who joined Gaynor and Strum to write on the record. As did singer-songwriter Hayley Mary, Delta Riggs’ Michael Tramonte and Elliott Hammond; and Joji Malani, formerly of Gang of Youths. Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper) co-wrote on several songs, and contributed production and mixing.

Moving away from his usual style, the musician expanded his musical palette, taking inspiration from The Pixies, The Cure and Oasis to create an alt-rock infused soundscape. Conceptually, the record charts the story of two lovers, a kind of disillusioned Bonnie and Clyde, hellbent on fleeing a dead-end town with stars in their eyes. Covering moments that the musician classifies as “extended youth”, the record came to be after Allday returned from a trip to Los Angeles.

Allday is set to his the road next year, embarking on his Drinking With My Smoking Friends Album Tour. Kicking off in Sydney on February 10, the run of shows will continue on to Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne, before wrapping up in Adelaide on March 11. The musician is also set to appear at a number of festivals across 2022, including Field Day, For Shore Festival, Seaside, For The Love and All Ages Tour.
