Oh Mercy frontman Alex Gow is stepping out alone, unveiling his new solo project, Perfect Moment. The musician has shared the first track of his forthcoming album, Kangourou, with the release of Not This Time.

The hypnotic release places Gow's mesmerising vocals above orchestral instrumentation and scintillating production. Written, performed and produced by the musician himself, honest and evocative lyricism are laced throughout, as the artist urges himself to be open to life and halt the self-sabotage. Then there's that smooth saxophone that takes over and transport you to a whole new realm.

Speaking of the track, the musician shares: “The lyrics were direct and unadorned by infinite lyrical techniques songwriters regularly embrace. The song is a simple one, a mantra of convincing oneself to interrupt a pattern of relationship self-sabotage. The old ‘don’t f**k it up this time’ mantra”.

Gow has also launched his own podcast series in collaboration with Mushroom, One Guitar. Gow sets his guests a challenge, loaning each one a Gibson J-45 Vintage Sunburst for four weeks with the intent of writing a song. When they return the guitar, Gow and his string of guests, Australian music royalty such as DMA’s Johnny Took, Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Sarah Blasko and rising star Alice Skye, sit down to discuss their process with Gow.

One Guitar will be going live for one-night-only at the Melbourne Writers Festival, with fans able to attend a recording of the podcast, where Missy Higgins will join the show.
