5 THINGS THAT INSPIRED PAIGE’S DEBUT ALBUM 'KING CLOWN'

King Clown is out now!

New Zealand singer-songwriter Paige has unveiled her long-awaited debut album, King Clown. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared with MILKY five things that inspired her whilst making the record.

Written predominantly by Paige and produced by Simon Gooding (P!NK, Drax Project, Neil Finn, Teeks), the album continues the singers introspective and reflective approach to songwriting as she navigates the human existence and the twists and turns of life as a young adult. The collection of songs weaves together sonic threads of RnB, Pop-Punk, Electronic, Soul and acoustic soundscapes, creating a genre-blurring listening experience. Tickets are on sale now!

Paige will embark on an Australian headline tour next week, having performed at SXSW Sydney over the past few days. Kicking off at The Junk Bar in Brisbane/Meanjin on October 26, the run of shows will continue on to Sydney/Eora's Low 32 on October 27, before wrapping up at The Gasometer Hotel in Melbourne/Naarm on October 28.

Having made her debut in 2018 with So Far, Paige has dropped a string of singles since launching her musical output under 'Paiges Space.' Her debut EP, Always Growing, arrived in 2020, and the singer has caught the attention of superstars Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Ruby Rose and more. Paige has taken to the stage alongside Six60, Ruel and Drax Project, and played at some of New Zealand's biggest festivals, including R&V, Bay Dreams, Homegrown and Peachy Keen, as well as opening for international acts including George Ezra, Holly Humberstone and Nina Nesbitt.

APPLAUSE BY LADY GAGA

The music video was part of the inspiration because she’s dressed as a clown!

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN MOVIE

It’s outrageous and fun – and I feel like I brought that energy to the process of making King Clown.

BILLIE EILISH

Because she leans into a darkness and that inspired me to do the same thing. You’ll hear that in Carousel, Loyalty and Bitch Boy.

THE JOKER (FROM BATMAN)

Specifically, Joaqin Phoenix’s Joker. Just visually, it inspired the Carousel video.

DR DRE

Because he’s an inspiration for the sounds I used to produce the album.
