Eora/Sydney-based indie-pop trio Loretta have dropped their new single, Dad’s Mercedes. To celebrate the release, the band have shared with MILKY five emerging artists they think we should all be listening to.
"Lyrically, this one came from a time in our lives when we felt like love had lower stakes. Exploring the narrative of two young lovers chasing after one another, in a place where you may be ready for love and relationships and all that comes with it; but one of you can't quite commit, both being fully aware of each other's feelings. It comes from a happy place where nothing feels like it needs to be too serious. We made sure to capture that feeling sonically; it needed to feel youthful." the band share.
To celebrate the release, Loretta will be hitting the road on an east coast tour. Kicking off in Gunaikurnai/San Remo tomorrow night, the run of shows will continue on to Naarm/Melbourne, Awabakal/Newcastle, Tharawal/Wollongong, Meanjin/Brisbane and Eora/Sydney, before wrapping up in Wiradjuri/Bathurst at Vanfest on December 2. Tickets are on sale now!
CARLA WEHBE
We are huge fans of Carla Wehbe’s music. She writes emotive pop that doesn’t take itself too seriously but connects to the listener on such a real level. A couple of our top picks from Carla’s catalogue would be is forever off the table? and hurts to love you which are two of her most recent releases. They feel honest and sonically refreshing for pop music. We’ve been lucky enough to write some music with Carla and she’s one of our favourite people to collaborate with as she always brings a unique perspective.
NICK WARD
Nick Ward’s latest EP is one of the most creative and cohesive local releases we have heard. We were all super inspired by it and his perspective. His music is introspective, honest, and his production feels extremely personal. Every song off of that EP feels like a different part of him as an artist and what he’s capable of. We’re really looking forward to his follow-up releases.
LOLA SCOTT
Lola Scott has been dropping some of our favourite releases all year so naturally it had to make the list. Her writing is really inspiring, and she has a really original ear for production. Can’t Be Enough and We Don’t Make Sense are two songs that really engaged us over the year and definitely made it into some of the band playlists.
MEL BLUE
Every track Mel Blue drop is complete infectious. The whole band is full of really talented musicians, and it definitely shows in their high energy pop/dance music. The guys opened for a show we put on at the Lansdowne a while ago and we’ve been fans ever since. Their 2022 release Everything About You is another track that’s a staple on our band playlists, as well as their remix of The Million’s No One’s Home (The Million are another incredible local up and comer).
CHRIS LANZON
We’re lucky enough to write music with Chris Lanzon here and there as well as being huge fans of his music. Chris has such a clear vision for his music and everything that comes with it.From his writing and production, through to his visuals and content, he’s always so honest and cohesive. He really lets you into his world. Each release Chris puts out into the world seems to just get better and better. His latest release June is our favourite yet and we’re super keen to hear what is in the future for him.
