VERA BLUE DEBUTS STUNNING MUSIC VIDEO FOR ‘LIE TO ME’

Image: Jason Henley

Aussie songstress Vera Blue has released the music video for her stellar new track, Lie To Me. The colourful and kaleidoscopic clip features animation from Brooklyn NYC based visual artist Felipe Posada (Madonna, Walk The Moon).

Directed by Onil Kotian, the clip sees the singer, whose real name is Celia Pavey, in a dream like world. Reminiscent of Alice In Wonderland, the colourful and dreamy landscape sees Pavey take on a character in the clip, sharing: “the psycho element to this song that it is very theatrical and cinematic - I can see myself becoming a whole different character in the video”.

The COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to the original plans for the music video, enlisting the help of Onil and Posada to bring a new world to life for the clip. The singer explained: “Due to Covid, we had to rethink the official video for Lie To Me as we were not able to get out and film. We had just created the amazing lyric video for the song and we approached Felipe and Onil to come back with an idea on how we could use what we had already created but bring it into a whole new world. I loved delving into new visual landscapes of colours, shapes, lighting and symbolism, and the idea of inventing an alternative reality that tells a story and captures the emotional roller coaster of falling in love again.”

On the track, the singer gives a phenomenal and mesmerising vocal performance. Utilising synthesised sounds and spellbinding vocal samples, Vera sings over the pulsating beat “Would you lie to me? If I lie, would you lie? Say goodbye to me?”. These questions are directed at the singer herself, as she navigates the voices in her own head that amplify the anxiety of a new relationship whilst also imploring the singer to enjoy herself.

Alongside the songs release, the singer has also announced her signing with US label Republic Records. The label houses global superstars Taylor Swift, Lorde, Ariana Grande and Florence + The Machine (we’re still trying to manifest a Florence and Vera collaboration!).
