Renowned Australian heavyweight post-punk rock band, Trophy Eyes are hitting the road! The band will embark on a regional Australian tour alongside Dear Seattle, and to celebrate they've shared with us their favourite touring memories and moments.
Kicking off in Cairns on October 11, the run of shows will continue on to Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Albury, Canberra, Ulladulla, South Morang, Frankston, Ballarat, Torquay, Coolangatta, Maroochydore and Gwynneville, before wrapping up in Newcastle on November 11.
It's really hard to widdle 10 years of touring down to 5 moments, so I'll do my best to list some things I love about touring, and some memories I cherish in no particular order.
ONE
1. Arriving at the destination after spending time apart from the band is always such a wholesome and happy experience for me. Everyone is fresh, new haircuts, big smiles, hugs all around. Everything feels new again. Tour is a lot like a tattoo. After it's done you quickly forget how hard it was and can't wait for the next one. When you're in the thick of it you think "why the fuck do I keep doing this to myself?". Seeing everyone excited before a tour is like the calm before the storm, and I always look forward to that.
TWO
2. Sharing the stage with friends is always a thrill. Just recently, Neck Dep played in Melbourne. I came to the show and surprised the boys by running out on stage to finish off their song 'In Bloom'. Ben greeted me with smiles and and laughter- that was really heartwarming.
THREE
3. When the rider arrives. A hospitality rider is a list of requests for the comfort of the artist on the day of the show. Usually like drinks and snacks. Tour is mostly waiting; waiting to load in, waiting to soundcheck, waiting to play, waiting to go to the hotel etc etc. To make the time fly, Trophy Eyes likes to play a game we call "drink the drink". So when the rider arrives in the green room, it's always a celebration. Even better if it's already there when we arrive!
FOUR
4. One of my fondest memories was playing our first show after the release of our song 'Chlorine'. We played it at Unify festival. I wasn't really expecting anything at all, so I was moved beyond belief when I saw the amount of people there. I'll never forget them singing. I cried like a baby afterward.
FIVE
5. Walking through your front door at home. Like getting into your own bed after a long day, but if your day was touring for 3 months. The feeling of privacy, the silence, the cleanliness, and a good night's sleep is unmatched in my opinion.
razzle dazzle to the drops. And so that's how the track became the way it is.”
