The Teskey Brothers have teamed up with Emma Donovan to deliver a moving cover of Archie Roache's 2016 single, Get Back To The Land. The releases cover art features Wurundjeri artist Grace Brown's painting, Desert Breeze.
Speaking of the release, Roach shares: “Listening to the Teskey Brothers' version of Get Back To The Land gives me goosebumps. It's good to see the Deadly Emma Donovan singing with Josh; their voices mesh. This version is just dripping with soul. To hear one of your own songs that has been taken to another level is really touching. I feel so humbled."
Josh Teskey says, “This song is very special to all our hearts. Archie Roach – what a legend! He really hit a nerve with this one. Something we’ve all felt from time-to-time while travelling, that yearning to get back to the land we know. Plus it was such an honour and privilege to share lead vocals with Emma Donovan. She is absolutely incredible on this track!”
The Teskey Brothers and Orchestra Victoria are set to kick off their east coast tour this Friday in Brisbane, supported by Dana Gehrman. The run of shows will continue on to Melbourne which will include sets from Emma Donovan and The Putbacks, before taking to the stage in Sydney this November, due to COVID-19 restrictions forcing the performance to be rescheduled.
Last month, the band released Live At Hammer Hall, a collection of superb orchestral reworks from their extensive catalogue, performed and recorded with Orchestra Victoria. Recontextualising the songs within an altered sonic realm. the beautiful marriage of blues and orchestral instrumentation shine throughout the recordings, with Say You’ll Do, Rain and I Get Up providing standout moments. The release also features the festive Dreaming of a Christmas With You and Highway Home For Christmas, the bands original Christmas compositions.
