Melbourne-based singer songwriter Seb Szabo has shared his simmering new single, Leaning On You (Wrecking Ball). To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY his top picks from his vast CD collection that he thinks should be a staple in everyones listening library.
“At the time I was struggling under the weight of supporting a partner with their own serious mental health issues, while juggling university, work and finding a place to live.” the musician shares of the track. “It was an overwhelming time, and so I wrote the song as a kind of cry to (or a way to scream at) a higher power trying to understand the meaning of it all, hence the religious imagery that permeates the song.“
Szabo has just kicked off his national tour, having already taken to the stage in Sydney and Canberra over the weekend. The run of shows will continue on to Brisbane, Queenscliff Music Festival and Melbourne.
THE 1975 - I LIKE IT WHEN YOU SLEEP, FOR YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL YET SO UNAWARE OF IT
This album lived in my car's CD player uninterrupted for a year. Essentially rock with pop dressing (or the other way around). Powerful and exquisitely detailed songwriting and production, and a band at the peak of their powers.
Underrated Track: If I Believe You.
COLDPLAY - A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD
Another album built to take over the world, it showcases Coldplay's unparalleled talent for simple beauty.
Underrated Track: Warning Sign.
PARAMORE - SELF-TITLED
By far my favourite Paramore album, filled with the confidence and attitude of earlier work with added maturity.
Underrated Track: Fast In My Car.
FLEETWOOD MAC - THE DANCE
One of the best live albums of all time, showcasing the return of the "Rumours" lineup in the 90s. Rock royalty (Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie) at their most wholesome.
Underrated track: Bleed to Love Her.
PAOLO NUTINI - SUNNY SIDE UP
Paolo Nutini's absolute left turn of a second album (still a UK Number One) that showed his joyousness and fearlessness was built to last.
Underrated Track: Candy.
JOHN MAYER - CONTINUUM
Yes, John Mayer can be a bit in love with himself... and yet so many others are, because of his generational guitar playing, and his wonderful ability to capture specific details of love & loneliness.
Underrated Track: Belief.
KINGS OF LEON - WALLS
Punchy & emotive, this is one of Kings of Leon's best albums, featuring the muscle of their earlier work with the polish of their stadium-sized ambitions.
Underrated Track: Find Me.
TAYLOR SWIFT - FEARLESS
Just perfect.
Underrated Track: Hey Stephen.
GANG OF YOUTHS - GO FARTHER IN LIGHTNESS
Perfect for a long, introspective drive, this album is a masterpiece. Deeply personal with a classic Australian edge, no Australian band had blended ambition, vulnerability and pure energy like this before.
Underrated Track: Do Not Let Your Spirit Wane.
LILY ALLEN - IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU
Do not cross Lily Allen. She might just destroy you in the sweetest most saccharine way. A diverse pop masterclass ahead of its time.
Underrated Track: Who'd Have Known.
