PRETTY BLEAK'S FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO RATHER THAN SCROLLING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

Pop-punk quartet PRETTY BLEAK have dropped their new single, other people’s heads. To celebrate the release, the band have shared with MILKY their favourite things to do rather than scrolling through social media.

“Just before the pandemic, I was thinking a lot about the fact that if you have a social media account, at any given moment someone could be creating a model of your personality in their minds that you have very little influence over,” vocalist Sam Thomas shares.

“In the past it would have been quite unusual to meet someone for the first time and discover that they already know significant and intimate things about you… I wanted to describe both the uneasiness that an individual might feel about being in a situation comparable to that, and the absurdness of the fact that this paradigm has become the expected state of our social interactions.”

READ BOOKS

It sounds cliche but it's actually legitimately really fun. The written word can be such an influential medium on your mind and can also be incredibly inspiring to us as artists.

MAKE MUSIC

Maybe this one is obvious, but from the perspective of people who are trying to be successful in this industry, every opportunity to work on our craft is worth making the most of.

WALK AROUND IN NATURE

It’s actually quite unbelievable how much is going on out there that we most often never see. Spending a day walking around somewhere in the wilderness without looking at your phone is unbelievably captivating. I think intentional and thoughtful time spent outside can be one of the most powerful ways to achieve better mindfulness.

COOKING

Not necessarily following recipes, just letting it become a more free form activity. The whole process can be really enjoyable, and it's also interesting to plan out what each of the ingredients roles will be and what flavours, colours, aromas, and textures will interact in what way. It’s actually quite a lot like making music in that sense.

MAKE COCKTAILS

Similarly to cooking, this can be a really creative endeavour. Experimenting with different layers and textures can provide interesting experiences for the senses. It can be quite cool to analogise, and see parallels between these things and the artistic techniques that we use in our band also.
