Sydney four-piece Iain T. McKelvey & The Midnight Tangos are set to make their debut later this week with their single, Carrington Road. If you’re like us and can’t wait, listen to the track right here on MILKY before its release!
Filmed at Harvest Recordings in Marrickville during the bands week-long stint working on new material, the visual captures a day of tracking, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the groups creative process. Filmed and edited by Newtown based collective Yeah, Rad, viewers are presented with vignettes of how fun, and sometimes gruelling, a day in the studio can be.
Speaking of the visual, McKelvey shares with MILKY: "I've always been a huge fan of studio footage, or home video style footage of bands recording. It's like a secret door is opened for a brief moment to let us view the process. Recording can, and usually does, cover the entire spectrum of emotions. This was the first time we had stepped into the studio as this particular formation. I felt like it was important to capture the start of this new chapter. I didn't really know how we were going to do that, Joel at Yeah, Rad was incredibly patient and just joined us in the studio for the day attached to the camera. They have a particularly good skill of being in the right place at the right time. We're all really happy with how it turned out and feel like it really shows the fun and the focus. For the band and for any fans of the band this video is a timestamp of an exciting moment on our collective journey."
Recorded by Ben Moore (Tim Rogers, Sarah Blasko, Le Pie, Julia Why), Carrington Road fuses together influences folk, blues, country and classic rock, paired with conversational and relatable lyricism. Made complete with jangly guitars and a driving rhythm, McKelvey vocals captivate throughout the track, bringing a nostalgic quality to Carrington Road.
