Romeo Walker, the musical project of Perth musician Benjamin Witt, is gearing up to release his debut album, The Shape Up. If you can't wait to give the record a spin, you can listen to the album right here on MILKY!

Produced by Sam Ford (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, POND, Abbe May), the record came to life during a period of time where Witt was living alone in Dawesville, working on a collection of demos that would soon shape his debut album. Across the beguiling record, Walker intricately fuses together sonic threads of indie-rock, hop-hop and ethio-jazz within electronic frenzied soundscapes fuelled by afro-cuban inspired percussion. Witt's captivating vocals bring to life the albums conceptual exploration, creating dazzling moments laced with space for contemplation atop dynamic sounds.

“The Shape Up is a sonic gumbo informed by experimental music, ethio-jazz, afro-cuban music, indie rock, hip hop and electronic music. It’s a late night record with a film noir atmosphere, set in space where aliens bump it in second hand intergalactic Ford Lazers.” Walker shares of the record.

“Without premeditation, there are loose themes around keeping a diamond in the mind through both timeless and modern confusion, walking on quicksand in a way that you don’t submerge, knowing what should be water off a duck’s back, knowing that sometimes the answer is to shut up and play your metaphorical guitar and knowing you’ve got to surf the wave you’re on. The record is ultimately about style, like how Bukowski spoke of style, “it’s a fresh way to approach a dull or dangerous thing.”

To celebrate the release, Romeo Walker will take to the stage at Perth's Mojo’s Bar this Saturday to launch the album. Tickets are on sale now!
