Melbourne-based artist Mackenzie Parker is gearing up to release his new single, Cash Only. If you can’t wait to give it a spin, you can watch the visual right here on MILKY before its release!
On the track, Parker documents a night out with a particular focus on the effects of substance abuse through introspective and reflective lyricism that provides intimate moments throughout. Produced by injoy, the song brings feel-good breezy sonics, led by a driving guitar melody whilst Parker's entrancing vocals float above. Throughout the songs visual, we follow Parker as he takes on a variety of roles, going head to head with himself as a skeptical convenient store owner and a shopper.
"There’s definitely a highlight on the ups and downs of substance abuse and how vastly it can change how you feel and how your brain’s wired, but there’s a lot of self reflection happening at the same time. I had some home truth's dealt to me while writing and recording this song but I think the best part about it is that Dan (injoy) and I were really able to reflect those experiences lyrically and texturally and create a path within the song that you can draw on in your own way. I hope that people can make a connection with it, for whatever reason."
Serving as the perfect introduction to the musicians debut EP, I Wonder if We’ll Feel Like This Forever, the release is set to chronicle Parker's own experiences and offer up vulnerable moments that touch on growing up, substance abuse and eating disorders, whilst also looking towards brighter days and finding inner peace.
