Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and 5 Seconds of Summer frontman Luke Hemmings has given fans another glimpse into his his debut solo record, When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, with the release of Motion. Weaving together threads of psych-rock, funk and pop, the track is built upon oscillating synths and a ripping guitar riff that simmer beneath Hemmings falsetto vocals.
Speaking of the track, Hemmings shares: "This song is about having a sense of distrust with the way you perceive your own thoughts and the way the world moves around you. It was written about a time when I felt like the voices in my head weren’t my own and my sense of reality felt blurred."
Written throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, When Facing the Things We Turn Away From is set to showcase sonic and conceptual growth from the 5SOS frontman, with the musician sharing that the record "allowed me to decipher the last 10 years of my life and help me make sense of the person I am today and how I got here".
When Facing the Things We Turn Away From is out August 13. Listen to Motion below.
