HI!
Serra: The name really says it all. Not only is it a warm greeting from us to you all, but…
Nic: …it’s a real statement of intent for the record - have fun, be sassy, do a drum solo..let’s go!
TALKIE TALKIE, CHARLIE CHARLIE
Serra: This particular funky number was inspired by our dear friend and touring guitarist, Charles, when Serra came across a video of him just jamming around to a backing track. We went for extra grand theft auto vibes for this one, it makes us feel like we are driving around Miami in the 80’s.
Nic: For me I imagine a conversation on walkie talkies or old landlines between a group of friends, hatching a plan or arranging a meet up.
DON'T CHANGE
Serra: This song has been with us since the early days of the band but hasn’t properly come to flourish until now. Structurally it was the hardest nut to crack on this album but we’re really pleased with how it turned out.
Nic: We really layered up the drums and percussion and added an arpeggiator which really brought the choruses to life.
KIKI, YOU COMPLETE ME
Nic: This track feels like the opening sequence of a comic book series. The tom sounds we went for are outrageous, like the ‘pows’ and ‘thwacks’ of a comic strip punctuating the music…think Batman meets Bitchos!
ROAD
Nic: Road takes you on a journey through landscapes you’ve never seen. On the back of a motorbike with the wind in your hair, not knowing what adventures lie ahead. The tension builds throughout the song and it feels like anything is possible.
1K!
Nic: This is a really shimmery, summer tune. There’s even a can of drink being opened at some point, you can feel the heat and care free vibes. I imagine a gathering with friends, maybe a BBQ, some drinks, people popping by.. The drums are quite stripped back for this track, more percussion led.
LA BOMBA
Serra: A burst of energy! We love playing this live and it’s so fun to dance to. Those little 70’s ping pong toms going off in the background makes you feel like you’re in a rocket blasting off into space!
OPEN THE BUNNY, WASTING MY TIME
Serra: There’s a real shine to this track that really came alive in the studio. There’s a delicious running loop that ties the whole track together and the funky united middle 8 is so satisfying to play. Our producer encouraged us to relinquish our usual wall of percussion and layered guitars, allowing each instrument to resonate beautifully in its own way.
IT'S ABOUT TIME
Nic: This jazzy number definitely stands out amongst the rest of the tracks, with haunting loops and glistening glockenspiel. The percussion breakdown which ended up being played by Michael League is totally no holds barred. We stood by in amazement while watching him pick up all sorts of percussion instruments in the studio and layer them up - he looked like he was just having such a great time and it was really inspiring to see how much joy and ease he took doing it.
NAUGHTY LITTLE CLOVE
Serra: The title for this came from our dear friend Kika. I had just come back from Australia, it was early in the morning, and I was embarking on making some flavoured Olive oil. Kika was consulting me through this process via text and suggested that I pop a “Naughty little Clove” in there. Some sort of sassy force propelled me to my computer where this naughty little number was born. The cowbell intro is so fun to play!
TANGO & TWIRL
Serra: Tango & Twirl could easily be the theme for the next big soap opera. Think soft focus, dramatic storylines, big hair and never-ending romantic intrigue.
LET ME COOK YOU
Nic: A rollicking, driving disco track. This one was so fun to bring together in the rehearsal studio and try different moods and vibes with. It’s completely relentless to play and I love that feeling that it could go off the tracks at any point and you just have to keep going! I can’t wait to feel the energy of this live.
