Salt Lake City based indie rock quintet, Krooked Kings have dropped their new album, All Out of Good Days. To celebrate the release, the band are taking MILKY through the release track by track!

"We’re just five guys from Utah writing about what we know - hoping it’ll help us figure things out a little more along the way. This album is about the weird time in life between college and the rest of your life and how utterly confusing, depressing, and enjoyable it can be”

ALL OUT OF GOOD DAYS BLURBS

We wrote this song in Eden, UT during a writing trip in April of last year. We had actually called it quits for the night and had some friends over, Matt started playing this synth line and our friends Delia and Dan started singing the “I want you” hook. Oli added the “All out of good days” response and we knew it was going to be the perfect intro to the album.

SICK OF BEING YOUNG

We wrote this song while hanging out after we just got back from our first west coast support tour. We were in a time where we didn't know what our futures were gonna look like but it was obvious we didn't have or were pursuing normal jobs. We we just messing around and ended up writing a song about being tired of being treated differently by people because we were choosing to pursue an untraditional route of life in the eyes of our peers

GOOD AND DRUNK

We originally wrote this song together while on a trip to LA with a producer who we just met. We went in with the intention of making a fun sounding song about just having a fun time at a a party with a little darker lyrics and after the first session we had a good base. We then brought it to daywave as our first song for this album, we worked through the rest together so it set the vibe sonically of where we kinda wanted the sound to be for the entire project

LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH

This was one of the first songs we worked on as a group with Day Wave. I think a lot of us got caught up in the original demo of the song which had a much more acoustic-focused campfire sing-a-long vibe. He really challenged us to push past that demo-itis and we ended up with a completely different but totally improved version of it that I can’t imagine living without.

DOG ON A CHAIN

We’re reluctant to talk about this song because it’s really specific to someone who was recently a big part of one of our lives. Not ready to open the wound quite yet on this one.

WISH WE COULD BE FRIENDS

A lot of us tend to dwell on past relationships and I think a lot of that comes from not knowing what the other person is up to. So much time goes by that it’s impossible to know if they’re even the same person but we make up these fictional ideals in our heads of who that person is supposed to be. This song dives into those ideas a bit and tries to find peace with the unknown.

COMING OF AGE

This was one of the first songs we wrote for the album and we knew it was special right out of the gate. It combines all these feelings of despair about getting older and not having a path in life with an upbeat catchy hook that just blends perfectly.

CARBON MONOXIDE

Oli and Dave wrote this song out in LA on a writing trip to meet day wav to see if he would be a good produce for the album. The song is about Industrialization/modernization sucking the life out of everything and killing creativity/life.

YOU THOUGHT

The lyrics in this song seem really specific but really we just wanted to make a song about a fictional character that fit the mold of a lot of the unhealthy family relationships we’ve seen here in Utah. It’s all about settling down too soon into an unhappy marriage and letting all that dysfunction be passed down from generation to generation.

CLOSE TONIGHT

This was definitely the most loosely formed song when we came into the studio with Day Wave and I think that’s why it turned out to be so unique - we came in with more of a blank slate. Jackson helped us build the song using new synth sounds that were completely fresh to us in order to make the epic conclusion of all out of good days.
