Gomeroi rapper Kobie Dee is back, sharing his first taste of new music for the year with his new single Statistic. The timing of the release coincides with Invasion Day, with protests planned across the nation today.
The moving track finds the rapper reflecting on his youth, growing up as an Indigenous Australian and the fears that arose as he began to understand the lingering impact of colonisation and the eternal effect it has placed upon his community. Emotive and storytelling lyricism unfurls atop a piano-led soundscape, with Dee delivering powerful bars that call for change that will alter the statistics he explores throughout the song.
“This track is a reflection of the systemic racism and intergenerational trauma that affects our mob to this day. I wrote Statistic to share my frustrations on the constant fear of becoming another statistic, lost to a system that was deliberately built against us and designed to make us fail. Statistic is also my way to speak on the facts of our people, where we come from, and our strength in our resistance.”
Statistic is out now!
