Pop superstar Katy Perry has teased fans with the official album artwork for her long awaited fifth studio album, Smile. The announcement came in the form of an interactive virtual carnival game.
Perry took to social media, inviting fans to “play and win…what you’ve been asking for”. Fans could pop the balloons covering the official artwork through tweeting about the reveal.
The albums cover and revel hint that the singer might be adapting a circus carnival aesthetic for her new musical era. On the cover, Perry poses with a neutral facial expression while donning a red clown nose. Her facial expression juxtaposing the albums title, Smile, which is scrawled across the lower half of the cover.
Along with the albums announcement, the singer released the records title track. The singer said in a statement on social media that “This whole album is my journey towards the light - with stories of resilience, hope and love.”
Perry released Daisies, the albums lead single, in May. Since 2019, the singer has released a string of singles including Never Really Over, Small Talk, Harleys In Hawaii, and Never Worn White. However, Never Really Over is the only track confirmed to appear on the album. Perry used to music video for Never Worn White to announce her first pregnancy with fiancé Orlando Bloom.
Smile is out August 14. Listen to Perry’s new single, below!
