22-year-old Korean-American musician James Ivy has shared his first taste of new music for the year, with the release of Texas. The release is accompanied by an official live performance visual, filmed in Brooklyn as part of Porter Robinson’s Secret Sky Virtual Festival.
The producer, singer and songwriter from New Jersey has been making original music since his high school days, having performed at Manhattan venue China Chalet at the age of 15. Moving to New York to continue his studies in music, the musician had already built up a collection of polished tracks. The result is something that’s simultaneously grungy and dreamy—a confluence that remains honest to where he’s been and where he wants to go. “There isn’t much Asian-American representation in rock music, and I don’t want to be boxed in to any of those expectations,” he says. “I want somebody to see this and think, ‘I can do that too.’”
Texas is out now! Watch the live performance video below.
