Mercury Prize nominated British band Yard Act have hit our shores for their debut Australian tour! We caught up with frontman James Smith and bassist Ryan Needham to chat about their debut album The Overload, their forthcoming documentary, touring, their 2023 plans and so much more!
Written and recorded in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the politically-charged record explored the state of affairs within the UK at the time of writing. There’s a focus on everyday life and the beauty born from the mundane. Bringing together playful melodies and soundscapes with philosophical-leaning lyricism brought to life by Smith’s entrancing spoken word performance, explosive post-punk sonics unfurl across the record led by driving percussion, ear-worm bass lines and dynamic guitar work.
Having already performed in Sydney, and hosted headline performances in Melbourne and Sydney, the band will take to the stage in Adelaide today at Laneway Festival. The touring festival will then continue to Melbourne and Perth this weekend. Final tickets are on sale now!
