After five years on the road performing in a number of sold-out productions, musician and actor Barry Conrad has made his return to music. We caught up with the artist to chat about his new single Ocean Road, his multi-faceted career and more!
On his personal new track, the singer navigates new love, documenting his own personal life to create a vulnerable and honest song that shines above a soulful melody. Conrad's powerful vocal performance soars above a stripped back sonic palette, accompanied by moving piano melodies. Written, arranged and produced by Conrad, the song came to be during lockdown last year after a bout of writers block.
The release is accompanied by a stunning cinematic visual, directed by award-winning director, Matt Sharp. Filmed on location in Byron Bay, the music video places Conrad within a variety of undeniably Australian natural landscapes, creating intimate moments between the musician and the viewer. Having grown up in a musical household, Conrad performed in choirs and talent shows at a young age, but never considered music as a career until later in his teens.
After years of working behind the scenes in the music industry, the musician went on to explore other facets of his creativity, scoring a role in the critically acclaimed Australian film, The Sapphires and starring in Power Rangers Ninja Storm. Then returning to his musical roots, Conrad appeared on The X-Factor Australia in 2013 as a Top 12 finalist. From there, he shifted his focus towards the theatre, nurturing both his musical talents and acting abilities.
Since then, Conrad has taken to the stage in a number of productions, including the arena spectaculars Hairspray and Grease, Broadway’s VIOLET, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and took on a lead role in the Nelson Mandela biographical musical Madiba. Conrad recently made his return to Ramsay Street, starring as Kane Jones on the iconic Aussie soap, Neighbours.
Having toured the world with the likes of Darlene Zschech, Brian McKnight, Israel Houghton Eric Benet, Craig David and K-Ci & JoJo, Conrad hopes to hit the road this year with new music in tow. Ocean Road is only the first taste of new music from the musician, with more music to follow throughout 2021!
