Sydney alt-country artist Babitha has unveiled her stunning debut album, Brighter Side Of Blue. We caught up with the singer to chat about the release, building a visual identity, her artistry and so much more!
The musical project of singer-songwriter Imogen Grist, Babitha's latest offering finds the singer navigating an array of emotions. Anger, grief and cynicism fuel the body of work, laced with moments of hope and positivity within the boiling pot of finding herself in a transitionary life period. Introspective lyricism unfurls throughout, offering relatable moments that captures love, heartbreak and exisiting in a contemporary age.
Written across a two year period that included the world coming to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic, Brighter Side Of Blue leans into alt-country sonics, with threads of folk, psych-rock, new wave and pop effortlessly woven throughout to create warm and nostalgia-fuelled soundscapes that will wrap themselves around you. The record was recorded live with her band at Stranded Studios in Bellambi (becoming the first album ever recorded at the studio), offering a new recording experience and the chance to convene once again following multiple lockdowns across 2021.
Babitha will be hitting the road with her full band for a string of live shows in celebration of the release of Brighter Side Of Blue. Kicking off at Sydney's Mary's Underground tomorrow night, the run of shows will continue on to Fitzroy's Old Bar on March 24 and Port Kembla's The Servo on April 2. The singer is also set to appear at High Country Hop Festival at Beachworth Historic Precinct on March 25. Tickets to all shows are on sale now!
