Emerging British artist Alfie Templeman has treated us all with his hotly-anticipated debut album Mellow Moon. We caught up with the musician to chat about the release, his forthcoming Australian tour, the evolution of his artistry and so much more!
Across the body of work, Templeman navigates relatable themes of love, saying goodbye, growing up and figuring yourself out, with an over arching focus on mental health. Laced with introspective and personal lyricism set atop brimming genre-defying soundscapes, the album finds its lighter moments midway through the album, with Best Feeling taking on the perspective of a lovestruck teen, and Do It taking its inspiration from pseudo-ironic 80s motivational videos. Templeman effortlessly weaves together sonic threads of indie alt-pop, RnB and 50's inspired sounds, creating a captivating exploration that unfurls throughout the record.
To celebrate the release, Templeman has teamed up with Amazon Music and Twitch to create a a large-scale purpose built virtual world on Minecraft. Having played the game online with fans for years, the server will host performances from the musician and his band, as well as exclusive performances from a bevy of talented artists, curated by Templeman himself. The Vaccines, Thomas Headon, Everything Everything, Coach Party, Phoebe Green, Matilda Mann, L’objectif, the legendary Todd Rundgren, and more can be found within the virtual world.
Known for his raucous and energetic live shows, Templeman will take to the stage on June 14 in Sydney and June 16 in Melbourne, tickets to his headline shows are on sale April 5. The musician will also take to the stage in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane alongside The Wombats. Tickets are on sale now!
Since 2017, Templeman has released a whopping seven EP's, alongside his mini-album Forever Isn't Long Enough. The releases cemented Templeman's place a prodigiously talented young musician, songwriter, producer and performer.
