Rising artist grantperez has unveiled his highly anticipated EP, When We Were Younger. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY five tunes from his childhood that remind him of when he was younger.

“Connecting with what I remember as a really lovely childhood grounds me in the real world and keeps me thinking of the important friends and family in my life,” the musician explains, “it keeps me from getting ahead of myself.”

grantperez will embark on a string of international headline shows, taking to the stage across the UK, Europe and North America across May, September, October and November. The musician is also set to support Cavetown on their North American tour, alongside mxmtoon and Ricky Montgomery this July and August.

NEW RADICALS - YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE

This song has such an incredible power to put me in a good mood, it's so fun and energetic while also being so so catchy. It gives me fond memories of when I was six or seven watching the movie Click and this song would come on at the credits. Click is one of my favourite movies from my childhood funnily enough, I decided to rewatch it recently and found a new love for this song.

EAGLES - LYIN' EYES

Lyin' Eyes is an absolute classic for the Perez household, on long car rides... actually on every car ride from when I was a child, my dad would play his Eagles CD blasting all the hits, and whenever this song came on it made me feel all nice and warm. So this song takes me back to long car rides on mountain roads and even playing Xbox while this song in the background through the house.

SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER - KISS ME

I cant actually recall when I first heard this song, it must've been on the radio a lot. Either way its such a cute track. The chord progression, the lyrics, her tone of voice - it makes me melt every time I hear it. When I think of who I was when I listen to this song, I can picture my little self in year three in my blue school uniform, super super short kid haha. It was a good time.

USHER - BURN

Burn was one of the most iconic songs of my upbringing. My siblings used to play alot of RNB and Burn was definitely a song that hit the hardest for me. It's hard to forget the melodies and the iconic instruments of this song. This brings me back to playing Need For Speed or Halo on the original Xbox and this song would play while my brother or sister would get ready to go out.

K-CI & JOJO - ALL MY LIFE

All My Life was another RNB hit for me, but this one stood out for it's unique intro and that earworm of a piano line. Plus the vocals, such a fun song to sing. I can still remember little Grant being five years old singing this out loud while playing in the house. A place this song takes me to is before a party starts at the house, specifically a family gathering, I can remember distinct sounds of the kitchen at work, the TV inside would be on blasting basketball or something and the garage door open while this song blasted through the sound system.
