Meanjin-based indie songstress, Tia Gostelow has unveiled her new single, Spring To Life. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared five tracks with MILKY that give her life

“Spring to Life is about navigating the complicated feelings of being fresh out of a relationship/friendship. Sometimes it can feel like you’ve lost yourself while being caught up in love, whether that’s romantic or platonic and it can be really hard to try and be the bigger person and do what’s right for you.” Gostelow shares.

“The production of this song is really what excites me, Chris Collins took it to a place that I could never of even dreamed of. Never in my life did I think I’d have a song with congas and a saxophone solo but here we are.”

To celebrate the release, Gostelow will be hitting the road for a string of headline shows. Kicking off in Shellharbour Rocks in NSW, the tour will continue on to The Peninsula Picnic in Victoria, before wrapping up at The Long Sunset in Canungra Qld.

BEACH BOY - BENEE

From the moment I heard this song I knew it was going to hold a very high spot in my favourite songs of all time. I love the whirly-verbed out guitars, it literally feels like you’re floating along with her when she’s singing. The chorus is so catchy, the melody is so smooth and relaxing and I always feel so happy when I listen to this. One thing that BENEE always does right no matter what is make beautifully witty songs that everyone can singalong to and Beach Boy makes me wanna sing at the top of my lungs. I’m not the biggest fan of beaches but this song makes me feel like going to the ocean.

YOUNG FOLKS - PETER BJORN AND JOHN

I remember having a So Fresh CD with Young Folks on it and being in the car with my grandma and just replaying it over and over again. I went a really long time without hearing it but I heard it again a few years ago and I ended up covering while I did the Falls Festival run for the first time and people absolutely loved it. I still have so much love for this song and the way their voices combine together. The shaker, bass and the whistling gives me life. I’m not sure how anyone could be sad listening to this. It’s going to be one of those forever songs.

HOT ROD - DAYGLOW

I feel insurmountable joy whenever I listen to Dayglow, it’s hard to pick just one of his songs but Hot Rod is the one that sticks out the most to me! This song takes me back to splendour in the grass jumping in mud with my friends and I love that that’s the memory I have connected to this. The synths and guitars really hold this song together and make it move the way it does, especially the breakdown towards the end. The chorus really has that moment where you hold your friends hands and yell all the lyrics to each other, I think that’s really special.

WALKING ON A DREAM - EMPIRE OF THE SUN

I have a feeling this song holds a special place in a lot of peoples hearts and brains. To me, Walking On A Dream is the epitome of being an adolescent in the 2000s/2010’s and it blows my mind that to this day it still has such a strong hold on people. No matter where you are in the world, if this song comes on I’m pretty sure there will be a group of people around you singing along and I think that’s pretty beautiful. I think this song show that music really does connect us.

TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT - CAGE THE ELEPHANT

This song takes me back to when I was 15 and getting ready to go to my first splendour. I was diving deep into bands like Grouplove, Metronomy, Two Door Cinema Club and I ended up stumbling upon Cage The Elephant. It really takes me back to being a teenager and driving around on my P’s and just being so excited about life and becoming a bit more independent. I wanna be driving around with the windows down during summer whenever this comes on.
